Latest Album Releases – 30/04/12

Marinathediamonds

This week Marina and the Diamonds release second album ‘Electra heart’. The concept album is centred around character Electra Heart, Not an alter ego of Marina but ‘a vehicle to portray part of the American dream, with elements of Greek tragedy’. Which is why she has changed musically, in order to represent the character.

The album explores a range of Archetypes, her take on the facets of a female personality; Primadonna, Sue-Barbie-A, Teen Idle and the Homewrecker, which were mainly inspired from her time touring America.

Talking about the album, Marina said;

“It's a bit cringe, but I wanted it to be a way of personifying love and heartbreak. The whole campaign is pink and fluffy, it's about love. I can never just make up a story, it has to be something that's happened in my life.”

The album will be out on the 30th April. Order your copy here. Also be sure to check out the other albums to be released this week.

Florence and the Machine Releases New Track ‘Breath of Life’

florencebreathlifea012

Florence and the Machine have just debuted the brand new track ‘Breath of Life’. The exclusive song is set to be on the soundtrack of  forthcoming Hollywood Blockbuster ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’.

Backed by a 60 piece choir, dramatic tribal drums and a full orchestra, ‘Breath of life’ was especially written for the film which is set to be released in UK cinemas on the 1st of June. Speaking to NME about the evil queen who inspired the track, Florence said;

‘The Queen is just this incredible character; so hungry for life but so dead inside. She's sort of eternal, but inside there's nothing. She's kind of like charcoal or something. She has this thirst for youth and for life, but for what kind of life? This darkness, but she's so beautiful, so it's this kind of juxtaposition between beauty and, ultimately, death.’

Check out the track below:

The movie soundtrack is set to be released on May 29th.

The Magic of Film

Today I thought I’d take a break from the usual fashion and music posts and instead write about one of my other passions; Photography.

As I was looking through the many lovely photos on the Lomography site, I came across some really gorgeous ones, which have inspired me to want to get a film camera. Although digital cameras have more settings and are alot more practical for photographers to use in any situation, film cameras have a wonderful spontaneous style to them. Anyway, what can be more exciting than waiting for your films to be developed to see the final result?

How to Become a Natural Beauty

Today the concept of Natural Beauty is being put in the shade by a world of fakery spread through the media. Natural beauty is something that anyone can achieve, as honestly, natural beauty is something that shines from within. Looking beautiful and being beautiful are two different things, so i'll show you how you can be a natural beauty, inside and out.

1. Believe that you are Beautiful. Except and love yourself for who you are, or else how can you expect anyone else to love you? People who are comfortable in their own skin and happy with themselves; are seen as more beautiful as they radiate warmth and positivity to others around them. Love yourself and so will others.

2. Clear up your Skin. I know that it is easier said than done, but their are a few ways to help your skin on its way to perfection. Use natural products like shea butter for more even skin tone, rosemary oil for acne, tea tree oil for inflammed acne, and witchhazel for a calming affect on redness. Even so, to get clear glowing skin - a sign of health, you'll need to be healthy on the inside too. Supplement by adding more veggies and fruit to your diet and getting plenty of vitamins D and C from fruit and vegetables.

3. Get soft and silky hair. Burn, split and spray.. that seems to be the torture that many peoples hair has to suffer from on a weekly bases from constant styling. Curling irons and Hair straighteners do so much damage to your hair, and although many high street 'hair protector' sprays and serums claim to 'protect' hair from heat damage; the naked truth is that your burning your hair, making it dull and lifeless, and the damage is irreversible! Embrace your natural hair and style it by using heat free products like rollers or only use heat styling products once a week to avoid heat damage. Wash it every other day so it doesn't get too dry, but stays clean and fresh. My secret is to use a few drops of pure Argan oil to nourish the ends of my hair, and a bit more to comb through my hair from the roots down, once a week for silky soft hair. (It's amazing stuff!)

4. Brush those Pearly whites. Everybody wants a beautiful white smile, which is why you need to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and have a sugar-free minty chewing gum after meals (it helps produce saliva in your mouth which kills bacteria, preventing plaque acid which can lead to cavities). In the mornings and evenings brush, then use mouthwash, followed by flossing (tip: don't brush too hard as this may damage enamel). To keep your teeth white and strong drink acidic drinks such as coffee and soda through straws to prevent corrosion of the enamel.

Finding Style in the Sales

I was searching through ASOS to try and find something nice for me to wear and came across the brilliant mid season sale. Who says that you have to have money to have style?

I’ve found so many great bargains in the sales but people still have that annoying snobbishness when it comes to cheaper clothes. I think if something looks great then what’s the point of worrying about whether it’s designer or not. I, just like many other girls, dream of owning a designer wardrobe one day, but until then I will buy what I like instead of caring about what other people think. I think everybody should dress the way they feel and show their true personalities instead of being just another fashion copy-cat.
Anyway, rant over, I’ll now show you my favourites from the ASOS mid-season sale! :)

Liquorish Polka Top With Peter Pan Collar

MTV Presents Unplugged: Florence + The Machine

The only release that caught my attention this week is a brand new live album from Florence and the Machine. This live release features all of the MTV Unplugged session they had recorded earlier this year and it also comes with a DVD of the performance. The recording includes Florence’s favourite songs from albums ‘Lungs’ and ‘Ceremonials’, and two brilliant covers.

Here is the trailer of what to expect;

Megan and Jasmine's Summer Trends

DSCF0342

Today I had a great time at the beach with Jasmine, modelling our favourite summer clothes! What I'm wearing in the picture is this cute mini bunny print skirt I got from H&M for £12.99 which I loved as soon as I tried it on. The material used for it is really soft quality cotton, so it's comfortable to wear and looks fashionable at the same time, so its 2 in 1! Comfort and Style. I'm also wearing a cream lace cardigan from Primark which cost only £8, and my sunglasses which I got from New Look for £7.99. So you see, you don't need to splash out loads to find a great outfit to wear this Summer.

I am wearing a Bird print skirt from H&M which I immediately fell in love with. I had to buy it straight away because it was so lovely! It was around £15 and I think it has now sold out. Prints are one of my favourite Spring/Summer trends so I can't wait to buy some more like this. I'm also wearing a cosy cardigan from H&M which I brought for £14.99 and a £8 top from Select.
